Monica cabarcas

Monica is a project manager and communication specialist with over 15 years of experience developing projects in human rights and supporting victims of the armed conflict in Colombia through the transitional justice process. Recently, she has been assisting refugees in Spain and refugees from Ukraine resettling in Sweden, as part of Help Ukraine Gothenburg’s mission.

Monica has been part of the Truth Commission in Colombia, leading a research project on coexistence during armed conflict and creating the campaign “More Reasons to Believe.” Her academic background includes holding master’s degrees in Human Rights and a master’s in Journalism, and she served as a guest researcher at Lund University’s Gender Department, contributing insights to her ongoing Ph.D. thesis on peacebuilding, gender, and intersectionality. Monica’s professional journey has been characterized by her work with international cooperation agencies, local NGOs, and the government, collaborating with organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme, European Union Cooperation, International Organization for Migrations, UN Women, Lutheran Foundation, Plan International, and War Child Holland, while also providing crucial support to local NGOs.
