Isidro Con Wong was born in Puntarenas, Costa Rica in February 1931, son of Chinese emigrants from the province of Canton- Zhongshan, China. For several years he had the opportunity to understand and experience the culture of his relatives, especially the written and spoken language, as well as foods and traditions. Con Wong incorporates into his work, into his life; his ethnic ancestry. his ethnic ancestry. He is the third generation of his family in Costa Rica. Since his return to Costa Rica in 1950, he settled in the province of Puntarenas where he lived for many years, but his work was developed in Paquera and the Gulf of Nicoya where agriculture, fishing and livestock became his way of life. Mr. Con Wong worked in different trades in Costa Rica as a farmer, shoe manufacturer, fisherman and industrialist-trader. But his farm was the most impactful field in his life; he loves this period and often dreams of his farms, cows, bulls and land where he farmed. Although he never really felt comfortable in all these jobs, his artistic expression was welling up in his spirit and soul, which he had to let out. A desire that was blocked for many years by his father, who urged him to work, as his culture did in those times. At the age of 40 and having fulfilled his father’s wish, he made the decision to become a professional artist and dedicate himself completely to art. Being born an artist and developing a personal and expressive style gave him a fast and successful career. His original style is recognized by great art critics and collectors, calling it: The magic world of Isidro Con Wong*. Isidro Con Wong has participated in several exhibitions around the world, such as the United States of America, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Taiwan, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, among others. One of his greatest achievements has been his record of six consecutive participations in the Monte Carlo International Grand Prix, something very difficult to achieve. Isidro has received many awards and distinctions in his artistic career, such as the distinction of Honor Princess Caroline of Monte Carlo, Honorary Member of the European Academy of Sciences Arts and Letters in Nice, France, Doctoral Cloister, Doctorate Honoris Causa in Mexico City.
